Live captions
Bilingual live captions.
Export an SRT when you finish.
Parley’s meeting sessions show the original words and the translation together in one desktop window. After you stop the session, review local caption history or export an SRT subtitle file for your own notes.
Captions ride along with live voice translation. Only you need Parley; the other participant stays in their meeting app. Audio-device selection and setup are required.
What you see during a session
While a connected session is running, Parley displays bilingual captions for the conversation directions you enabled. You can follow both languages without leaving the desktop app. This is caption support inside a translation session — not a separate multi-attendee caption portal with QR-code distribution for every listener.
Spoken translation and captions share the same session. Managed translation currently uses Qwen and Doubao. Gemini and OpenAI adapters are coming soon.
Local history and SRT export
Caption history stays on your computer in the app’s local storage. When you need a written record, export an SRT subtitle file from the supported history-export feature. Treat the file as a convenience for review; confirm important names, numbers and commitments with the other person before you rely on them.
Selected capture audio is still processed by your chosen cloud service. See how audio and account data are handled.
How this differs from voice-only or caption-only tools
- With Parley meeting translation: you get translated speech in both directions plus bilingual captions and optional SRT export. Details: meeting translation.
- Caption-first products: some tools focus on shared captions for many attendees. Parley’s captions accompany its own desktop session; they are not marketed as an independent shared-caption platform.
- Platform native captions: meeting apps often ship their own captions. Those features stay inside one vendor’s account rules and do not replace a cross-app desktop workflow.

Pay for session time
Managed translation needs no personal API key and has no recurring Parley subscription. Speaking and listening share one connected-session charge — both directions do not double the cost. Billing includes silence while the connection is ready; stop the session to stop charging. A 30-minute session costs 30 minutes at the selected model’s rate.
Qwen is $0.070/minute and Doubao is $0.148/minute. Prefer your own provider account? A one-time personal API licence unlocks supported provider configuration. Review model prices and billing details.
Setup without platform-specific click paths
Parley appears as a microphone and speaker path for mainstream meeting software on Windows and Mac. Exact menus differ by operating system and client version. Use the desktop download and audio checklist and validate both directions before a real call. This page does not document unverified step-by-step setup for any single meeting brand.
Need spoken translation too?
Captions are part of the same desktop session as live voice translation.
